What I’ve Been Up To: Monkey Pod Edition

Yesterday, on Facebook, I wrote:

“There’s nothing cooler than pieces of wood carved into fruit shapes. I’m just saying.”

Everyone ignored me, except for one pal who wrote, “huh?”, so I though I should elaborate.
Here’s the thing; I have become the proud owner of this:

What’s not to love? It was FREE! I have wooden bananas, grapes, pineapples, some mystery fruit… Quinten loves it. I think it’s hilarious, therefore worthy of being displayed on my dining room table.

Derrick is not in love with it though. He said, “Get that wooden banana off my table. “
So, I took his picture.

I gave him his coffee first though, because I didn’t want to upset him…
“You won’t like me when I’m angry.”

He just walked by, saw this, and sighed. Poor him. He has to go to work while I post random pictures of him on the Internet for no good reason. I do a lot of things for no good reason…like collect a ridiculous amount of wooden fruit.

So what do you think? Cool centerpiece? Amazing centerpiece? I have an extra banana that didn’t fit, I can send it to you!

  1. Dude, I have the same ones!! A gift at X-mas from my mother in law, who gets my weird wood obsession. I LOVE my wooden fruit, they sit in a wood bowl on my dining room table. I don't care how tacky it is!

  2. i find them oddly intriguing! i have never seen wooden fruit b4! only plastic or wax. i wanna see what other weird stuff they have at that house! field trip????

  3. Joni, are you saying you want my wooden banana? D- the estate sale is sat. I think the fruit is the only cool stuff, unless you're into macromae owls…

  4. JoAnn. All I can say is, who ever got hit with that ball must have been knocked silly. This post is so funny and I'm still laughing!
As for the wooden fruit, I don't know if I like it. I really just don't know.

  5. About the fruit . . . if it makes you happy then keep it! But I might be with your main man, who is mighty deadly with his sports activities, isn't he?
I think my kids would eat the wooden fruit. They aren't the brightest crayons in the box . . . if you know what I mean. I kid! I jest!
Loved this post! What a hoot! Oh, do you have a blog facebook page? Because . . . dude . . . I must like it.

  6. JoAnn, this is such a great centerpiece! I love it! So unique (except, oddly enough, for your friend's set!) I'd totally take your banana!

Has Derrick explained the reason for his disdain? Would he be ok with wooden pizza or some other food?

  7. I think it's gaudy, but I'd definitely put it on my table as a centerpiece just for its conversation starter factor.
Haha, my husband looooves it when I post pics of him too.

  8. I say spray-paint all the bananas yellow, put them back then see what hubby says. At least then you won't have an itch to make banana bread…you know, cuz they won't be brown anymore.
