Why Christians Should Know How to Party

I’ll be honest, I think the Easter Bunny is ridiculous. Aside from the fact that I have been unable to find any connection to a giant egg laying bunny and the real occurrences of the Easter/Passover season, what is with a Bunny LAYING EGGS that are candy filled OR hard boiled?

Bunnies are mammals.
Despite these affronts to science, we include the Bunny in our Easter festivities. I packed candy into the plastic, and I rationalized the sugar intake that my children will experience tomorrow after church. “Well Derrick,” I said, “I guess Easter should be more exciting to kids than Halloween…”
“Yep. Why?” he asked from the couch.
“BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH CANDY HERE I THINK IT WOULD TAKE 50 HALLOWEENS TO CATCH UP!!”
The day of Christ’s Resurrection should be candy filled, and color filled, and food filled, and happy, party, celebration filled. Despite my reservations about the Bunny, a quick flick through my camera shows there’s been a lot of those things around here.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe it’s important to remember the suffering, and the crucifixion, and the burial, and how He died for our sins.
But tomorrow? Easter Sunday? That’s party day.
He’s alive! We can hope, and we can pray to a God that cannot be destroyed, and if a bunny somehow happens to be included in the celebration, that’s fine with me.
Pass the Peeps!
“Though you have not seen Him, you love Him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory”-1 Peter 1:8

  1. I love the festivities at your place!

I totally agree with you about the Easter Bunny. I think it should be the Easter Platypus seeing as they are mammals who actually lay eggs. Are you with me???

  2. I loved this post…great pictures too!

Have you ever made Resurrection cookies with your kids? I used to do it with mine when they were little and the look of amazement on their faces when we opened the oven/tomb was priceless! It made me so happy that they were even more amazed by that then whatever the Easter Bunny had brought.

Happy Easter – Happy Party Day!

  3. RIGHT ON!!!

I struggled with it this year, I will admit. In previous years I've done the whole egg hunt to appease the grandparents. I didn't mind. I love making them happy and I can give them this.

BUT the kids also loved it. Okay, Okay, I loved it too.

But when it came around this year I had to discuss it with DH just to be reminded we can glorify God in our celebrations no matter WHAT we are celebrating or how.

    I love this.

One peep in Singapore is $1…a package of four was $4. I didn't share. Yes, I did. They loved them. But they each only got one.
